Actor Suriya's 'Jai Bhim' continues to steal the limelight - this time for getting in the list of movies eligible for consideration at the 94th Oscars.

The social drama, directed by T.J. Gnanavel and bankrolled by Suriya and Jyothika under their banner 2D Entertainment, is among the 276 movies in contention for the title.

Composer Sean Roldan, who composed the music for the film, shared the news on his Twitter, captioning it "the fire rages on."Jai Bhim last week made the headlines after Oscars, the official YouTube channel of the Academy Awards, shared a 13-minute clip from the movie, captioning it "Jai Bhim weaves in real case studies helmed by Activist-Lawyer Chandru, who brought justice to indigenous tribes in Tamilnadu through his relentless efforts. Writer-director TJ Gnanavel reveals how the story narrative was formed and executed."

The Oscar nomination voting begins on Thursday (January 27), and the final nomination list will be announced on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. The award ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, March 27, 2022, in Hollywood, US.

It is worth noting that the movie had also received official entry to the prestigious Golden Globes 2022 in the Non-English language Movie category, and made it to the Noida Film Festival.

Last November, Jai Bhim overtook classics like The Shawshank Redemption and The Godfather to secure the top spot as the highest rated movie (9.6) in the IMDB online database.

Months after its release on the Amazon Prime OTT platform, the movie still holds a respectable 9.3 rating out of 10.

It tells of real-life events of a 1993 case fought by Justice K. Chandru, and depicts the horrors of injustice towards the marginalised community. Suriya, who portrays K Chandru, assists a tribal woman whose husband was wrongfully detained and abused by the police.

The film has Lijomol Jose, Manikandan and Suriya as the main leads supported by Tamizh, Guru Somasundaram, Rajisha Vijayan, Kumaravel, Prakash Raj, Ilavarasu and others.
