More than 100 police officers were deployed near Vels Film City to maintain order and ensure public safety during the demonstration. Protesters were seen holding banners and effigies, voicing their concerns about the show’s influence on society.
TVK, which is an ally of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), has been vocal in its criticism of the programme. Party leader and MLA Velmurugan alleged that the show features inappropriate content, stating it includes “indecent behaviour and unsuitable scenes” that make it unfit for viewing by families, youth, and children.
“The scriptwriters don’t seem to care if the Tamil community is affected. They are running the show purely for profit,” Velmurugan said. He added that he has approached Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker Appavu to raise the issue formally.
“If the Speaker does not admit the motion for discussion and if the Chief Minister, as well as the IT and Broadcast departments, do not act, we will intensify our protest including demonstrations at the Bigg Boss set and Vijay Television premises,” he warned.
Bigg Boss Tamil Season 9 is currently airing on Vijay TV, with 24 contestants at the start of the season. Six participants have been evicted, and one has voluntarily exited the show. Actor Vijay Sethupathi is hosting the current season for the second consecutive year.
