Popular sci-fi romance series 'Kalyaanam 2 Kaathal' is currently showing on Astro Vinmeen HD (Ch 202).

Astro recently had a chat with the maker of the series, as well as its cast members, to see what are their hopes for the second season of the show.

Karthik Shaamalan, director:

What can the audience look forward to with Kalyaanam 2 Kaathal Season 2?

This season is all about the conclusin to the Kalyaanam 2 Kaathal saga. All questions will be answered. Most importantly, this season came out with more than 8,000 shots of graphic elements. We built three huge sets to match the first season, and they were furnished with the detailing similar to international sets. I'm sure the audience will enjoy the series, as have prepared a thoroughly engaging and emotional roller coaster ride for them.

How was your experience different directing this second season?

The second season required more ground and production works. Besides that, the screenplay of season 2 was more intense and had more performance pulling works that needed to be performed. It required more shooting hours, along with more locations that exceeded our expectations.

What are your hopes for this series?

I hope Kalyaanam 2 Kaathal Season 2 will set a benchmark for upcoming productions in terms of visual effects, screen writing and powerful performances. I also hope audiences accept our series so it opens up more gates for more upcoming sequels.

Magendran Raman, Yuvaraj Krishnasamy, Malarmeni Perumal & Pashini Sivakumar, Cast:

Please tell us about the role you play in Kalyaanam 2 Kaathal Season 2?

Magendran: I play three different roles in Kalyaanam 2 Kaathal Season 2 including Saminathan, Harish and Bakyanathan. In season 2, I primarily played Bakyanathan, a loving husband willing to sacrifice his life for the wellbeing of his wife. He loses his memories and recalls them with the help of Harish and Vicky.

Yuvaraj: I play Harish. The whole plot encompasses the past and future relationships of Harish with Sowmiya, his first love at university. It seems to be an easy, apt and readily made character for me. However, Karthik Shaamalan had different ideas. It turned out to be one of the most complex characters played in the series, whereby the projected emotions within Harish towards other characters differs from one to another. Despite the complexity, I thoroughly enjoyed the travel of Harish in me. The director had a clear vision of what he wanted from me, and I believe I delivered as per his precise guidance.

Malarmeni: My role was Miya who had an opportunity to change her past. In season 2, Miya struggles emotionally to a greater extent. In order to gain something, she has to lose some important elements in her life, which includes losing closure. Thus, this challenges her comprehension of her surroundings. As the story gets intense, Miya starts to question herself and is determined in finding her happiness despite the adversities. A strong and bold character who is emotionally connected to the love of her life.

Pashini: I play Sowmiya, an introverted girl who stutters due her speech disorder. She had a traumatic childhood and grew up living in a bubble. At one point, she decides to step up and further her studies and meets the love of her life at university. Of course, it is an emotional roller coaster ride and since this is a science fiction series and involves time travel, emotions travel too! This is my favourite role played so far. I have a strong emotional connection with Sowmiya.

What are some of your learnings from acting in this season?

Magendran: The directors felt comfortable and accepted the way I performed in my previous movies. However, Karthik pushed me to fit into the character while extracting my best performance that fit his vision. This season also required more a more emotional personality and I’m not an emotional person, thus, to portray emotional elements was quite challenging.

Yuvaraj: It was a daunting task to carry the character's weight and blueprint after a break between the production of Season 1 and Season 2. All the characters had a huge elevation like a paradigm shift. Season 2 promises triple the intensity, graph and tension by Harish. Having said that, the homework was crucial stepping into the shoot of season 2. I had to study the design in depth from the director on the pre works, as well as on a day-to-day basis during my scenes. As a whole, season 2 had a greater scope as we were concluding the Kalyaanam 2 Kaathal story.

Malarmeni: Personally, the character I played gave my own self a better understanding of the purpose of my life. Season 1 addressed unresolved issues while Season 2 gave her closure. I learnt that some characters we portray can help us see the different perspective of life and its purpose. I learnt that in acting, the portrayed character can give us hope in overcoming adversities in real life. The degree of faith we have also plays an important role in our beliefs of fate and the universe.

Pashini: Sowmiya has four different phases in Season 2, mentally and the way she carries herself. She is happy, excited, loved, loves, confused, tired, and undergoes extreme mental pressure. To pull this off I needed a director like Karthik Shaamalan, my acting guru! He clearly explains ‘what has happened’, ‘what is going to happen’ and he makes you perform ‘what is happening’. I learned the importance of knowing your script thoroughly, like every line and action by heart. It has been a great learning experience. And I always reminded myself, that ‘Sowmiya’ is an actual person living somewhere, and I’m playing that soul!
