There’s no denying that, Selvaraghavan has long been a creative force in Tamil cinema, a visionary director who has seamlessly transitioned into acting, captivating audiences with his intense performances. Known for portraying complex antagonists, he recently drew praise for his chilling role as a cold-blooded financier in Shane Nigam’s Balti. Now, the filmmaker-actor is ready to thrill audiences once again with Aaryan, where he takes on the role of a dangerous serial killer alongside Vishnu Vishal.
In a candid conversation with film critic Baradwaj Rangan on Galatta Plus, Selvaraghavan opened up about Aaryan, his upcoming projects, and the much-anticipated sequels to his cult classics : Aayirathil Oruvan, Pudhupettai, and 7G Rainbow Colony.
When asked about the fan excitement surrounding his sequels, Selvaraghavan smiled and said, “You feel happy hearing that. But it’s not something I can decide on my own. I can’t suddenly make a sequel; it takes many people coming together to make that happen.”
Addressing the possibility of Aayirathil Oruvan and Pudhupettai sequels without their original stars Karthi and Dhanush, he explained, “I can think of those films with other people in the lead. Both of them are unavailable for the next three years, but that’s fine, there are other characters and storylines to explore. Whether consciously or not, both movies didn’t end from the hero’s perspective, so we can continue the story with anyone. But the script must satisfy me. I’ve already completed 50 per cent of the script for Pudhupettai.”
He also revealed an interesting twist regarding 7G Rainbow Colony. For years, Selvaraghavan believed that story had reached its natural end until his producer Rathnam reignited the idea. “At first, I wondered how it was even possible,” he admitted. “The story was complete. But that challenge excited me. What if Kadhir is still living in love, still thinking about Anitha after her death? It may not be realistic, but that’s the emotion we’re exploring in the sequel.”
Selvaraghavan confirmed that 60 per cent of the 7G Rainbow Colony sequel has already been filmed. Meanwhile, his other directorial project, Mental Manadhil, starring G.V. Prakash Kumar, has wrapped up shooting.
With multiple projects lined up both as a director and actor, Selvaraghavan shows no signs of slowing down. All eyes are now on his spine-chilling performance in Aaryan, slated for release on October 31, followed by his next leading role in Dennis Manjunath’s Manithan Deivamagalam.
