Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, with a screenplay written by Stefan Ritcher and Rajkumar Periasamy -Amaran, starring Tamil actor Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role, is an upcoming biopic on the late Major Mukund Varadarajan, an Indian Army officer and recipient of India’s highest peacetime military honor, the Ashoka Chakra.

The film draws inspiration from a story featured in India's Most Fearless, a book by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh.

Who Was Major Mukund Varadarajan?

Major Mukund Varadarajan served in the Rajput Regiment of the Indian Army and was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra for his bravery during a counterterrorism operation in Jammu & Kashmir. While on deputation with the 44th Rashtriya Rifles battalion, he led an operation in 2014 that eliminated two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists and their commander. Despite sustaining serious injuries, Major Mukund completed his mission before collapsing and later succumbed to his wounds. His extraordinary courage and dedication earned him national recognition.

An alumnus of the Officers Training Academy, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in 2006 and rose through the ranks to become a Major by 2012. He also served in the United Nations mission in Lebanon and at the Infantry School in Madhya Pradesh. Mukund's leadership during the 2014 operation in South Kashmir is remembered as a testament to his bravery and commitment to his country.

Who Is Indhu Rebecca Varghese?

Indhu Rebecca Varghese was Major Mukund’s wife and longtime partner. Married for less than five years, she became a widow and young mother to their 3-year-old daughter after her husband’s heroic death in 2014. Indhu’s resilience and strength following this tragedy left a lasting impact. After receiving Mukund’s posthumous Ashoka Chakra from then-President Pranab Mukherjee, she stated, "What the country needs to see today is the man he was, not my sorrow."
