Actor Ajith Kumar, who was recently honoured with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award by President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi, has once again won hearts not just for his achievements, but for his humility and deep sense of gratitude. In an exclusive interview with India Today, the actor opened up about the vital role his wife, Shalini Ajith Kumar, has played in his life and career.

Ajith, who is currently taking a break from acting to focus on his professional racing career, credited Shalini for being the steadfast force behind his success. “Shalini made so many sacrifices. She’s been my pillar of support. I am extremely grateful to the universe,” he said.

Reflecting on their journey together, the Good Bad Ugly actor acknowledged that while he had made mistakes and taken wrong decisions at times, Shalini never wavered in her support. “I am not trying to sound politically correct here. I mean it in every sense. She was immensely popular and deeply loved by her fans. For her to step back from her successful career to support me even during the lows means the world to me,” he shared. “She deserves a lot of credit for everything I’ve achieved in life.”

Shalini Ajith Kumar, a celebrated actress in her own right, stepped away from the limelight following their wedding in 2000. Her quiet strength and commitment have not only grounded Ajith but also inspired fans across generations.

Despite his growing accomplishments including securing podium finishes in international races in 2025, Ajith remains grounded. Speaking about the Padma Bhushan, he humbly said, “I’m probably living a dream. I’m scared someone will wake me up.”
