One of the most gripping aspects of any thriller is the opening theme, which helps to set the tone for what is to come.

In that sense, Prithvi Kumaraguru has done justice to the opening theme of supernatural series Asura Vettai, which is currently showing on Astro Vinmeen HD (CH 231), and he is only 20!

Astro Ulagam spoke to the youth, who's currently doing his final year in Bachelor of Broadcasting and Journalism at the Lim Kok Wing University in Cyberjaya.

Although music has always been a passion for Prithvi, exposure wise, it has only been uploading his works on his own YouTube channel, thus far. It was only last year that his mother Sherreen Murugas, who is a producer of Asura Vettai, asked him to work on a one-minute opening theme for the series.

It took four drafts before the production company Creative Stew, the production company, greenlit the theme and thus began Prithvi's career in mainstream music composition.

"I had no issues in setting the dark tone for the track as I have always loved thrillers and supernatural-related stuff.

"The producers also told me the gist of Asura Vettai, so knowing the story line help me set the mood," he told.

Besides the opening theme, Prithvi was also tasked with working on the foley - a unique sound effect technique that involves creating and performing everyday sounds for movies and television shows, for Asura Vettai.

As for the challenge faced in working on the project, Prithvi said it is living up to the high expectation thrust upon him, and keeping to the high bar set by fellow local music composers.

The opportunity has turned Prithvi into a sort of "celebrity" among his group of friends at university, who have given glowing reviews thus far.

As for his future, Prithvi had already been approached to compose the BGM (background music) for a magazine-style project his mother is producing next.

His advice to fellow aspiring musicians is: "Age is not a barrier. Being young is not a problem. Anyone can do anything at any age, as long as they put in the hardwork and follow their passion.

"Not everyone gets the opportunity, so it is best to make use of it when it comes around. It is better to fail trying, than to never have tried at all," he said.

Wise words indeed, Prithvi. Here's wishing you all the very best in your future undertakings.
