An ancient, damaged Nandi idol was recently discovered on the beach in Tiruchendur. In Hindu temples, an Ashtabandana Mahakumbabhishekam is held once every 12 years. Prior to this sacred event, it is customary to repair or replace old, damaged deities in the temple. The damaged idols are typically submerged in water bodies such as seas, rivers, or ponds.

In this instance, a damaged Nandi statue that had been placed in the sea resurfaced on the coast of Tiruchendur, likely brought ashore by the strong waves.
