The increasing number of bullying cases in schools has prompted calls for immediate and stricter measures to protect students, with the Ministry of Education (MOE) having a portal for reporting such incidents.

Accessible at (https://www.moe.gov.my/aduanbuli), the platform allows members of the public, parents, and guardians to lodge complaints about bullying incidents directly with the MOE.

Reports can be submitted through three channels – a special hotline at 03-8884 9352, email at [[email protected]], or via the MOE Public Complaint Management System (SISPA).

The move comes amid heightened national concern over student safety following the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir at a religious boarding school in Sabah. Initially reported as the result of an accidental fall, the case has since evolved into a high-profile investigation after the victim’s family disputed the early findings and demanded a post-mortem examination.

Federal police have confirmed that injuries found during the post-mortem were consistent with a fall, with severe traumatic brain injury identified as the cause of death. However, persistent speculation on social media and calls for transparency have led the Attorney General’s Chambers to order the exhumation of Zara’s remains for further investigation.

Education and child safety advocates say the tragedy is a stark reminder of the urgent need to address bullying and violence in schools before they escalate into irreversible harm. By introducing the new reporting portal, the MOE hopes to make it easier for students, parents, and concerned individuals to speak up, ensuring swift action is taken to protect victims and hold perpetrators accountable.

Members of the public are encouraged to use the platform and its channels to report any signs of bullying, with the aim of fostering a safer and more supportive school environment for all children.
