The parents of a 21-year-old remand inmate are demanding answers after discovering their son had been hospitalised just a week after their last visit.

S. Pannir, 51, said he only learned of his son’s condition when he attempted to visit him at the Johor Baru Correctional Centre in Ulu Choh on Jan 23, only to be informed that P. Jagdeeshraj had been admitted to Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) two days earlier, on Jan 21.

"I was devastated when I saw him. Just a week before, he was fine apart from a sore neck, but now he is bedridden, struggling to speak and breathe. I even overheard doctors saying he may require a ventilator," Pannir said at a press conference near the hospital on Friday (Jan 31).

Expressing shock over his son's condition, Pannir is now urging the Home Ministry to launch an investigation into the circumstances that led to his son’s hospitalisation.
