Today, fans and celebrities from Kollywood and beyond are celebrating the birthday of the legendary composer, Ilaiyaraaja. However, there's a surprising twist to the celebrations: June 2 is not actually his birthday.

Ilaiyaraaja’s real birthday is June 3. So why does the iconic composer celebrate his birthday on June 2? The answer lies in his deep respect for the late politician Kalaignar Karunanidhi, who bestowed upon him the title of "Isaignani."

In a previous interview, Ilaiyaraaja explained his decision: “June 3 is Kalaignar's birthday. I haven't even done a little bit of the great service that he has done for the Tamil language. I feel proud that we share a birthday. But in my opinion, Tamil Nadu should only wish Kalaignar on June 3. So, I decided to celebrate my birthday on June 2.”

By choosing June 2 to celebrate his birthday, Ilaiyaraaja honors the legacy of Karunanidhi and ensures that the focus on June 3 remains on the contributions of the late politician to Tamil culture and language.
