The police have hauled up for individuals over an incident involving a man being beaten up at a convenience store in Bukit Bintang yesterday, for taking items without paying.

"We have recorded statements from four individuals regarding the incident.

"The incident is being probed under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt," Sinar Harian quoted Dang Wangi police chief ACP Noor Dellhan Yahaya as saying in a statement.

He was responding to a viral TikTok video which showed a man in transportation company Prasarana's uniform, assaulting a civilian at a convenience store, believed for taking items without paying.

In a statement, Prasarana said it views the incident seriously and has launched an immediate investigation into the matter, as the offender's behaviour was contrary to the company's code of work ethic.

Prasarana further vowed that follow-up action will be taken to prevent a recurrence.

The video showed the man in a red Prasarana uniform repeatedly assaulting a man, believed a foreigner, who had taken items without paying at the convenience store.

A second man in dark blue uniform, believed to be an auxiliary policeman, can also be seen beside the assaulter during the incident, without doing much to stop the attack.

Not surprisingly, netizens lambasted both men for taking the law into their own hands, instead of handing the alleged thief to the police.
