i-Saraan: Retirement Savings Incentives for the Self-Employed - LINK

If you are self-employed, work as a freelancer or do not have a fixed monthly income, i-Saraan is a retirement savings initiative worth considering.

The programme encourages eligible individuals to make voluntary contributions to their EPF savings while receiving a government incentive.

Under the stated incentive structure:

  • Government incentive: 20% of eligible contributions.
  • Maximum incentive: RM500 per year.
  • Annual contribution of RM2,500: Eligible for up to RM500 in government incentives.
  • Lifetime incentive limit: RM5,000 or until the member reaches age 60, subject to the applicable rules.

This scheme may be particularly useful for people who do not receive regular retirement contributions from an employer and want to build their savings for the future.

i-Saraan Plus: Additional Support for E-Hailing and P-Hailing Drivers - LINK

Introduced in 2026, i-Saraan Plus is designed to support eligible e-hailing and p-hailing drivers in building their retirement savings. The programme offers:

  • Annual contribution of RM3,000: Eligible for up to RM600 in government incentives.
  • Lifetime incentive limit: RM6,000 or until age 60, subject to the applicable rules.

However, eligibility may depend on the driver's registration and participation through selected platforms. Drivers should confirm the latest requirements with EPF before contributing.

i-Suri: Retirement Savings Support for Eligible Women - LINK

Women who meet the eligibility requirements and are registered under the eKasih database may qualify for i-Suri, an initiative that encourages retirement savings through government incentives. The scheme offers:

  • Government incentive: 50% of eligible contributions.
  • Maximum incentive: RM300 per year.
  • Annual contribution of RM600: Eligible for up to RM300 in government incentives.
  • From 2026, the eligibility age has been extended to 60, subject to the programme's current requirements.

For eligible women, i-Suri provides an opportunity to build retirement savings while receiving additional support from the government.

Department of Social Welfare (JKM) Assistance - LINK

The Department of Social Welfare, known as Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM), provides various forms of financial assistance to eligible Malaysians who need additional support. Depending on the scheme, assistance may be available to:

  • Low-income families.
  • Children and eligible caregivers.
  • Senior citizens.
  • Persons with disabilities.

The amount of assistance, eligibility criteria and application process vary according to the specific programme. Applications may require supporting documents and an assessment by JKM. Those interested can contact their nearest JKM office to find out which assistance schemes they may qualify for. Online application options may also vary by programme and location.

Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA)- LINK

Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) provides eligible recipients with assistance to purchase essential goods through their MyKad.

Depending on the recipient category and applicable programme rules, the assistance may range from RM50 to RM200 per month.

Eligible purchases may include:

  • Groceries and basic food items.
  • Household essentials.
  • Selected medicines.
  • School supplies and other approved necessities.

Unlike many other assistance programmes, eligible recipients generally do not need to submit a separate application for SARA. Eligibility is determined through the relevant government assistance criteria.

Recipients should check the official SARA portal to confirm their eligibility, assistance amount and list of participating retailers.

INSAN MADANI: Find Government Assistance That Suits Your Needs - LINK

Not sure which government assistance programme you qualify for? INSAN MADANI can help you identify potential support based on your circumstances.

The portal serves as an assistant-finding platform, helping users explore relevant government programmes across areas such as:

  • Income and financial support.
  • Food assistance.
  • Education.
  • Housing.
  • Utilities.
  • Healthcare.
  • Transportation.

It is important to note that INSAN MADANI is an aid-finding platform, not a financial assistance programme itself. Users will still need to follow the application process and eligibility requirements of the relevant scheme.

Before submitting an application, make sure you check the latest eligibility requirements, application deadlines and supporting documents needed for each programme. Some schemes require an application, while others determine eligibility through existing government records.

For the most accurate information, refer to the official portals of STR, EPF, JKM and SARA, or contact the relevant government agency directly.

With several forms of assistance available, taking the time to check your eligibility could help you identify financial support for your household, daily expenses or long-term savings.
