Malaysian non-Muslim couples can now apply to register their civil marriage online following a newly introduced digital application process by the National Registration Department (JPN), aimed at making the registration procedure faster and more convenient.
JPN Selangor announced that the online civil marriage application service is now available for eligible individuals aged 21 and above. The move is expected to simplify the initial registration process for couples planning to formalise their marriage under civil law in Malaysia.
According to the department, both applicants must meet several conditions before submitting their online application.
Among the key eligibility requirements are:
- Both individuals must be Malaysian citizens
- Both partners must be aged 21 and above
- Both must have residential addresses registered within the same district, based on the address stated on their MyKad
- The applicant must not be a member of the Malaysian Armed Forces
- The applicant must not be an officer of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM)
JPN also clarified that applications which do not fulfil the standard online requirements will still need to be submitted physically at the nearest JPN office.
For eligible couples, the online application process can be completed through the MyGovernment portal before proceeding to JPN services.
Steps to apply:
- Register an account through the MyGovernment portal
- Log in as an existing user or sign up as a new applicant
- Select the marriage registration service under JPN
- Read the terms and conditions carefully
- Click “Agree” to proceed
- Fill in the required digital forms
- Submit the application online
- Print the application slip once registration is successful
Applicants are required to bring the printed slip to the JPN counter to complete the final stage of the marriage registration process.
The department has also advised couples to carefully review all terms and conditions, especially the correct marriage district selection, before submitting their application.
