Malaysians can look forward to an added digital benefit this Merdeka and Malaysia Day season, with the government announcing 10GB of free mobile data for eligible users. The initiative, introduced under the Rahmah Rebate Incentive in collaboration with five telecommunications companies, will provide 5GB of free data on August 31, followed by another 5GB on September 16.
The offer is available to both Malaysian prepaid and postpaid users. Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the participating telecommunications companies: CelcomDigi, Maxis, TM, U Mobile and YES will announce the respective redemption methods and validity periods for the free data.
The exact details on how to redeem your free data and its validity period will be announced soon. Fahmi said the telecommunications companies involved will soon provide comprehensive information on the redemption process for your free data.
Important reminder: Do not engage with any links or messages that promise early access to free data. Wait for the official communication from your telco to ensure a safe and secure redemption process.
The initiative is part of this year’s Merdeka and Malaysia Day celebrations, providing Malaysians with additional connectivity as the country commemorates two important national occasions.
Fahmi announced the initiative during the HKHM 2026 Celebration Sponsorship Contribution Presentation Ceremony, where he also revealed that this year’s celebrations have secured RM48.63 million in confirmed sponsorships from 139 strategic partners.
Of the total, RM2.7 million comes in cash contributions, while RM45.93 million comprises goods and services. The sponsorship value marks an increase of more than 118 per cent compared with the RM22.3 million recorded last year.
According to Fahmi, cash contributions will be channelled into the Merdeka Secretariat Trust Account to support preparations for this year’s celebrations.
Meanwhile, donated goods and services will be distributed to members of the public attending the national celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya on August 31 and the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching in Sarawak on September 16.
With the 10GB free data initiative and nationwide celebrations, Malaysians can look forward to marking Merdeka and Malaysia Day with not only a celebration of national pride, but also greater digital connectivity.
