mySalam 2026: Who Qualifies & How to Claim RM8,000 and Daily Hospital Benefits?

Medical emergencies can place a huge financial burden on families, especially those in the lower-income group. To help ease this burden, the Malaysian Government has continued the mySalam scheme through 2026, offering free health protection and financial assistance to eligible Malaysians.

The scheme provides cash assistance for individuals diagnosed with critical illnesses as well as those admitted to government hospitals, helping cover expenses such as transportation, daily necessities and loss of income during recovery.

Who is eligible for mySalam?

You may qualify for mySalam if you meet the following criteria:

• Malaysian citizen.
• Aged between 18 and 65 years old (calculated as of 1 January of the relevant year).
• An active recipient of Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR).
• Eligible spouses of STR recipients are also covered.

Eligible recipients are automatically enrolled into the scheme and will be notified in stages via SMS. For the 2026 eligibility period, coverage includes:

• Individuals aged 18 to 65 and their spouses.
• Single individuals aged 21 to 65.
• Persons with disabilities (OKU) aged 18 to 65.

What benefits can you receive?

mySalam offers two main financial benefits.

Critical Illness Benefit

If you are diagnosed with one of the 50 covered critical illnesses, you can receive a one-time cash payment of RM8,000. The illnesses are grouped into 12 categories, including:

• Cancer
• Heart-related diseases
• Brain, nerve and muscle disorders
• Eye, ear and speech conditions
• Liver diseases
• Kidney diseases
• HIV-related illnesses
• Mental disorders
• Rare diseases
• Terminal illnesses
• Bone, joint and blood disorders
• Other critical illnesses

Eligible recipients who are admitted to a government hospital, university hospital or military hospital listed by mySalam can claim RM50 per day for up to 14 days each year. This means you can receive a maximum of RM700 annually. Please note that you must stay overnight in the hospital ward to qualify for this benefit.

Hospitalisation claims will not be approved for admissions related to:

• Suicide or attempted suicide
• War or riots
• Criminal or illegal activities
• Alcohol or drug abuse
• Pregnancy and family planning

• Other exclusions stated under the scheme.

   

Documents required for a Critical Illness claim

Before submitting your claim, prepare the following:

• A copy of your MyKad (front and back)
• The Critical Illness (CI) form completed by your treating specialist

The doctor must ensure the form includes:

• Full name of the patient
• MyKad number
• Details of the diagnosed illness
• Official hospital or clinic stamp
• Doctor's signature

How to submit your mySalam claim?

• Hospitalisation Claim

Step 1: Log in to the mySalam portal using your MyKad number and password

Step 2: Select "Claims", followed by "Claims Submission" and choose "Hospitalisation Claim"

Step 3: Complete the online form

Step 4: Upload your MyKad (front and back) together with your hospital discharge note

Step 5: Submit your application

• Critical Illness Claim

Step 1: Log in to the mySalam portal and download the appropriate Critical Illness Doctor's Statement form

Step 2: Ask your treating specialist to complete, sign and stamp the form

Step 3: Return to the mySalam portal and select "Claims", followed by "Claims Submission" and choose "Critical Illness Claim"

Step 4: Complete the required information and upload:

• MyKad (front and back)
• Completed Critical Illness form

Step 5: Submit your claim online

When is the deadline?

For the 2026 coverage period:

• Eligibility period: 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026
• Claim submission deadline: 30 June 2027

Eligible Malaysians are encouraged to submit their claims as early as possible to avoid missing the deadline.
