Instead, the government has introduced the Basic Rahmah Contribution (SARA), a cashless credit worth RM600 per year, credited monthly at RM50. This assistance can be used to purchase essential items at selected supermarkets nationwide.
This change reflects the government’s aim to provide more structured support and ensure that aid is used specifically for daily necessities.
Eligibility Criteria for STR 2026 (Single Category)
Single individuals may apply for STR 2026 if they meet the following conditions:
- Malaysian citizens who are single, single parents, widows or widowers without children.
- Aged 21–59 years.
- Single Persons with Disabilities (OKU) are eligible from 19 years old.
- Not studying full-time at any IPTA or IPTS.
- Monthly income of RM2,500 and below.

Important:
Singles aged 21 and above (including OKU aged 19 and above) who are still studying full-time at IPTA/IPTS are not eligible to apply as single individuals. They can only be listed as dependents under the household application.
This new measure is expected to help ease living costs for low-income singles while ensuring the assistance is spent appropriately.
How to Check Your STR Status & Eligibility?
You can check your STR eligibility online:
1. Go to the official STR portal: bantuantunai.hasil.gov.my
2. Log in using your MyKad number and password.
3. Click “Review Application”
4. Your approval status and eligible amount will be shown.
The STR 2026 payment rate and phases will depend on each applicant’s category. Although singles will no longer receive cash assistance, they will still benefit from the RM600 yearly SARA credit.
