K. Poonyamitra

A 14-year-old student from Penang has proven that dedication, discipline, and a love for learning can lead to extraordinary success.

K. Poonyamitra has officially entered the Malaysia Book of Records after successfully memorising and reciting the first 300 digits of Pi, earning recognition for the category Most Pi Recited from Memory by a Teenager.

The Form Two student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (P) St. George achieved the milestone on February 9, becoming the first person in Malaysia to set a record in this category.

Poonyamitra shared that her success did not happen overnight. It was the result of two months of steady practice and personal discipline. Every day, she would set a goal to memorise at least 10 digits and make sure she achieved it.

She explained that the beginning was challenging, but once she developed a rhythm, remembering the numbers became much easier.

Her journey highlights an important lesson for students everywhere, consistent small efforts can lead to remarkable results over time.

Poonyamitra said her strong interest in mathematics and numbers inspired her to take on the challenge. Instead of seeing numbers as difficult, she turned them into something exciting and rewarding.

She received a computer and certificate in recognition of her achievement during the launch of the Digitalisation of the Management System for temples under the Penang Hindu Endowments Board.

Her mother, S. Thilagam, also revealed that Poonyamitra previously won the Memory Athlete category in the Kids Got Talent Malaysia Season 9 competition in 2025 after memorising the same 300 digits of Pi.

Beyond Malaysia, the talented teenager has also stepped onto the international stage by participating in an online audition for America's Got Talent Season 21 and becoming runner-up in the ASEAN World Records Rising Starz Icon 2025.

Poonyamitra hopes her achievement will encourage other students to challenge themselves in areas they are passionate about, especially mathematics, memory skills, and learning. Congratulations champ and long way to go!
