Yoshnaa Logenthiran

In a world where dreams often begin quietly, an 11-year-old girl from Klang has just shown how far passion and perseverance can truly take you.

Yoshnaa Logenthiran, a student of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil Ladang Highlands, recently stepped onto an international stage for the very first time and walked away with a remarkable victory. At The Dance of Asia 2026, held in Chengdu, China, she clinched the Gold Award in the Under-13 category and also earned a Silver Award for her overall performance.

But behind the medals is a story that began years ago, long before the spotlight found her.

Yoshnaa first discovered her love for dance at the age of five. What started as a simple passion slowly grew into discipline, commitment, and countless hours of practice. While most children her age were still exploring hobbies, Yoshnaa was already dedicating herself to perfecting her craft, step by step, routine by routine.

For her mother, entrepreneur B. Mohanaeswary, this moment was more than just a win. It was the culmination of years of quiet sacrifices and unwavering belief.

Watching her daughter perform among talented dancers from across the Asia-Pacific region was both surreal and emotional. Until this point, Yoshnaa had only competed locally. This international stage was unfamiliar, challenging, and filled with pressure, but she embraced it with grace and confidence.

Her father, Melaka police officer S. Logenthiran, experienced the moment from afar. Unable to be present due to work commitments, he followed every update closely, watching videos and waiting for news. When Yoshnaa’s name was finally announced, it became a moment he will never forget.

Even from a distance, he felt the weight of her journey, the effort, the dedication, the courage it took for a young girl to stand tall among the best. It was not just pride, but a deep emotional realisation of how far his daughter had come.

The Dance of Asia is known for celebrating diverse forms of movement and artistry, bringing together dancers across genres such as ballet, hip hop, K-pop, and Latin dance. For Yoshnaa, it was more than just a competition, it was a platform that tested her spirit and showcased her potential to the world.

And she rose to the occasion.

Sometimes, it starts with a child who simply loves to dance and a family that believes in her enough to let that passion grow.

At just 11 years old, Yoshnaa has not only made her family proud but has also carried Malaysia’s name onto an international stage with grace and strength.

And this, perhaps, is only the beginning.
