Malaysian educator Thilagavathi Arichanan has been selected to represent Malaysia for the International Teacher Weeks (ITW) Programme at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland.

The teacher at SMK (P) Taman Petaling in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, officially started her first day for the two-week programme, yesterday, according to a Facebook post on her page.

Thilagavathi thanked the Education Ministry, the state and district education departments, as well as her principle, colleagues, and family for supporting her in broadening her horizon.

According to another Facebook post by the Concerned UM Indian Graduates (CUMIG) alumni group, Thilagavathi is also a "Guru Cemerlang" in Physics and has achieved numerous accodales in the field of teaching.

"We hope her achievement inspires many to strive to be the best in their respective fields, and more importantly, continue to do their best for the community," read a post, which has since gone viral.

For the record, CERN is one of the world's largest and most respected centres for scientific research.

According to a post on CERN's website, the ITW programme will go on for two weeks from July 31 to August 13.

The residential programme, which took place for the first time in 2017, is open to high school science teachers from around the world "who would like to update their knowledge of particle physics, its associated technologies, and related subjects in a group of sciences teachers of different nationalities."

Among others, the ITW programme contains lectures, on-site visits, hands-on workshops, discussions, as well as Questions and Answers sessions.

In addition, teachers will also collaborate in several study groups on various topics related to particle physics and its integration into the classroom - on which they are supposed to deliver final reports at the end of the programme.

Congratulations teacher Thilagavathi! You have indeed made your school, family, and the country proud.
