Veteran actor Kamal Haasan, who recently arrived in Malaysia to promote his much-anticipated film Thug Life, attended a Press Conference at the Shangri-La Hotel and an Exclusive Meet & Greet session at MyTown Kuala Lumpur yesterday. During the event, the legendary star addressed a range of questions from the press and fans alike.

One recurring topic was his long-standing reluctance to take selfies with fans, something that has often sparked curiosity. Haasan candidly explained the personal reason behind this choice:

"Years ago, I was involved in an accident that resulted in a rod being placed in my leg, it’s still there to this day. On one occasion, while attempting to take a selfie with fans, I nearly lost my balance and aggravated the injury. I had to be rushed to the hospital. That incident left a lasting impact on me. Out of caution and the fear of it happening again, I’ve since chosen to avoid taking selfies," he shared.

Despite his avoidance of selfies, Haasan warmly engaged with fans and expressed his gratitude for their continued support. As for Thug Life, the film is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on June 5. This marks a significant cinematic reunion, the first collaboration in 38 years between Kamal Haasan and acclaimed director Mani Ratnam, since their iconic 1987 classic Nayakan.

The Indian media has dubbed Thug Life a “spiritual sequel” to that film, a notion reinforced by Haasan himself, who called it a “peace offering” to fans who have long awaited their reunion. Co-written by Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, Thug Life is set in the gritty world of organized crime. It follows the lives of two powerful brothers, Sakthivel and Manickam, who rule the underworld.

When one of them rescues a young boy, jealousy and mistrust begin to unravel their empire. An attempted assassination pushes Sakthivel to the edge, prompting him to turn against the very family he once built. The film also stars Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, and Joju George, and is expected to be one of the biggest releases of the year.
