When the British came to Malaya, many South Indians followed, making this land their new home. Along with their hopes and dreams, they carried a simple yet powerful belief : “Don’t live in a place where there is no temple.”

For them, a temple wasn’t just about worship; it was a space to keep their faith alive and pass down their traditions, language, and culture to the next generation.

In 1923, the Hindu community in Port Dickson built a small temple for Mother Shakthi, Sri Maha Mariamman, at the spot where Merdeka Stadium stands today. Not long after, in 1930, the temple found its permanent home along Jalan Lama (back then called Milk Coffee Road), thanks to the guidance of engineer Mr. Thamothiran Pillay and the support of the local community.

What began as a humble shrine has, over the years, grown into the largest Hindu temple in Negeri Sembilan, sitting proudly on half an acre of land. Every addition and improvement came from the love, devotion, and donations of its devotees.

Address: Kampung Bahasa Kapor, 71000 Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia
