Cristiano Ronaldo Makes World Cup History, Becomes First Footballer To Score In Six FIFA World Cups

Cristiano Ronaldo once again proved why he remains one of football's greatest icons, delivering performance that will be remembered for years to come.

The Portuguese superstar etched his name deeper into football history after becoming the first player ever to score in six different FIFA World Cup tournaments, helping Portugal cruise to a commanding 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

After finding the back of the net twice, the 41-year-old turned towards a television camera and passionately declared, "I'm back!", a message aimed directly at those who questioned whether he still belonged on football's biggest stage.

The response could not have been more emphatic. Coming into the match, Ronaldo faced criticism following Portugal's underwhelming 1-1 draw against DR Congo in their opening Group K encounter. As stars such as Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Vinicius Jr and Harry Kane grabbed headlines with impressive performances, many wondered if Ronaldo's World Cup magic had finally faded.

Instead, the veteran forward answered in the only way he knows best, by scoring.

Ronaldo opened the scoring just six minutes into the match with a stunning half-volley from Joao Cancelo's cross before adding his second goal before halftime after being brilliantly set up by Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese captain came agonisingly close to a hat-trick, only to be denied by a goal-line clearance. Despite missing out on three goals, Ronaldo's brace was enough to make history and remind the football world that age remains just a number.

"Personal records are always nice, but my goal is always to help the team achieve its objectives," Ronaldo said after the match.

"We had a difficult week, but we stayed united, trusted our work and responded in the best way possible."

Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez praised his captain's leadership during a challenging period filled with criticism and pressure.

"Cristiano Ronaldo was the perfect captain," Martinez said.

"He used his experience, stayed focused and led the team through a difficult week. He remains a role model both on and off the pitch."

Former Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney also hailed Ronaldo's remarkable achievement.

"To score two goals at a World Cup at 41 years old is incredible," Rooney said.

"He has faced criticism throughout his career, and this is always how he responds."

Meanwhile, former Portugal rival and World Cup-winning captain Fabio Cannavaro admitted Ronaldo remains one of football's most dangerous players.

"If you give him one centimetre inside the box, you are dead," Cannavaro remarked.

The achievement places Ronaldo in a league of his own. Having now scored in World Cups spanning from 2006 to 2026, he becomes the first player in history to score across six separate editions of the tournament.

While many expected football's newest generation to dominate the headlines, Ronaldo once again reminded the world why his name continues to stand alongside the sport's greatest legends.

At 41, hunger remains. The goals continue to come. And as Ronaldo himself declared to the world:

"I'm back."
